Emamectin benzoate affects two parts of the insect nervous system: it binds to gamma-aminobutyric acid receptors at the synapse and glutamate H-receptors in muscle cells. This binding results in a continuous flow of chloride ions into the muscle cells. The muscles remain in a permanently relaxed state and cannot contract. As a result, after 1–4 hours, the insect stops moving and feeding, and depending on its stage, dies within 1–3 days.
Lufenuron inhibits chitin biosynthesis during the insect molting stage, disrupts the formation of a new cuticle, and prevents larvae from developing into the next growth stage. Larval death occurs during molting. It has ovicidal activity (preventing larvae from hatching from eggs) and transovarial activity (reducing the fertility of females in the next generation). It also provides strong stomach action and moderate contact action.
