## How POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium Works | Fast Action Through a Proven Biochemical Pathway

POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium Herbicide works by targeting a **key enzyme in plant metabolism**: **glutamine synthetase**. This enzyme is essential for two major plant processes—**ammonia detoxification** and **glutamine synthesis**. When this enzyme is blocked, toxic levels of ammonia quickly build up in the plant cells, leading to **rapid cell damage**, **disruption of photosynthesis**, and ultimately **plant death**.

Unlike systemic herbicides like glyphosate, glufosinate works through a **contact-action mechanism**. After foliar application, it is absorbed by the leaves and stems, moves locally through the plant tissue, and begins to act **within hours**.

### Key Action Timeline:

- **2–6 hours** after application: Photosynthesis begins to shut down
- **Within 1 day**: Plant growth stops entirely
- **2–3 days**: Chlorosis (yellowing) and necrosis (browning) begin to show
- **7–14 days**: Complete death of the treated weed
- **25–45 days**: Residual control period, depending on weather and weed pressure

Glufosinate is **rainfast within 4 hours** of application, making it a reliable tool even in humid or unpredictable climates. Additionally, once glufosinate reaches the soil, it **binds tightly and degrades quickly** through microbial action—meaning it **does not harm crop roots or leach into groundwater**.

### Why It Matters for Your Customers

- **Rapid visible results**: Users can see yellowing in 48 hours—confidence that it’s working
- **Contact + residual effect**: Eliminates existing weeds and prevents regrowth for weeks
- **Environmental compatibility**: Biodegradable in soil, low risk to water systems
- **Low resistance risk**: Targets a different site of action than glyphosate (Group 10 vs. Group 9), ideal for rotation

> The fast-acting, contact-kill nature of **POMAIS glufosinate herbicide** makes it especially effective in **orchards, vineyards**, and **post-emergence weed control** programs where quick burndown is needed without soil carryover risk.

> With proper application, **POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium** ensures strong field performance while maintaining compliance with global environmental safety standards.

## Resistance Management | Your Solution Against Glyphosate-Resistant Weeds

As herbicide resistance continues to challenge modern agriculture, **POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium Herbicide** plays a vital role in **diversified weed control strategies**. It is especially useful in fields where **glyphosate-resistant weeds** have become dominant, providing an **alternative site of action** that targets those difficult populations.

### Why Resistance Management Matters

Overuse of a single herbicide—particularly **glyphosate (Group 9)**—has led to the rise of resistant weed species like:

- **Amaranthus spp.** (pigweed, Palmer amaranth, waterhemp)
- **Conyza spp.** (marestail, horseweed)
- **Lolium spp.** (annual ryegrass)
- **Ambrosia spp.** (ragweed)

These weeds can **survive normal glyphosate treatments**, spread quickly, and cause **significant yield loss**.

### Glufosinate: A Different Mode of Action

Glufosinate belongs to **HRAC Group 10** (inhibitors of glutamine synthetase). Its unique mode of action allows it to:

- **Control weeds that glyphosate can no longer kill**
- **Delay resistance development** when used in rotation or tank mixes
- **Preserve the long-term value of other herbicides** in your program

Because it works via **contact action**, it complements systemic herbicides (like glyphosate or dicamba) in **sequential or combined applications**.

### How to Integrate Glufosinate into a Resistance Program

| Strategy | Description |
| --- | --- |
| **Rotation** | Alternate Glufosinate with other herbicide classes (Group 2, 4, 14) season by season or crop by crop |
| **Tank Mixing** | Mix Glufosinate with other post-emergent herbicides to hit weeds with multiple modes of action |
| **Sequential Spray** | Use Glufosinate after pre-emergent herbicides to eliminate escapes |
| **Use in GM Crops** | Deploy Glufosinate-tolerant crops (e.g., LibertyLink soybeans) to widen post-emergent control options |

### POMAIS Combination Products for Resistance Programs

We also offer **custom formulations** designed to enhance spectrum and reduce resistance risks:

- **Glufosinate-Ammonium + Glyphosate**
- **Glufosinate-Ammonium + Atrazine**
- **Glufosinate-Ammonium + Flumioxazin / Dicamba / MCPA**

These ready-to-use blends allow distributors to **offer complete resistance-fighting solutions**, especially in no-till or conservation farming systems.

> If you’re building a long-term herbicide rotation program, **POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium** is an essential component to maintain control, avoid yield loss, and support sustainable farming.

## Usage Tips & Common Mistakes | Maximize Performance with POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium

To get the best results from **POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium Herbicide**, proper application is critical. While this product is powerful and reliable, its effectiveness can drop sharply if misused. Below are key recommendations and reminders based on field experience and feedback from large-scale users.

### Best Practices for Application

1. **Spray Coverage is Everything**
As a **contact herbicide**, Glufosinate must **touch the green parts of the weed** to work. Use **fine to medium flat-fan nozzles** to ensure complete leaf surface coverage.
2. **Apply on Young, Actively Growing Weeds**
The ideal weed height is **below 15 cm**. Smaller weeds absorb more product and die faster. Large or hardened weeds may only be partially controlled.
3. **Time Your Application Properly**
Spray when the **weather is dry, sunny, and under 28°C**. Avoid windy days to reduce drift and injury to nearby crops.
4. **Use Clean Water and Mix Carefully**
Always pre-dilute the herbicide in a small amount of water before adding to the tank. Use **clean water**, free of mud or fertilizer residues.
5. **Stick to the Recommended Dosage**
Overdosing increases risk of crop injury in directed-spray systems; underdosing may result in poor control and promote resistance.
6. **Allow Rainfast Time**
Wait at least **4 hours before rain or irrigation**. This ensures full leaf absorption.

### Common Mistakes to Avoid

| Mistake | Result |
| --- | --- |
| **Spraying on wet weeds (dew, rain)** | Product runs off, reducing control by 30–60% |
| **Using it on mature, woody weeds** | Only partial leaf damage; root survives |
| **Spraying over non-tolerant crops** | Leaf burn, crop stunting, or plant death |
| **Mixing with highly alkaline products** | Chemical breakdown or nozzle clogging |
| **Ignoring sprayer calibration** | Inconsistent coverage, overdose/underdose zones |
| **Reapplying too soon** | No added benefit; may stress the crop or soil |

### Pro Tip for Orchard and Vineyard Use

When using in **orchards or vineyards**, always use **shielded sprayers** or **row-directed nozzles**. Avoid any direct spray contact with young stems, shoots, or fruits to prevent injury.

> With proper technique, **POMAIS Glufosinate-Ammonium Herbicide** delivers powerful, uniform weed control. Our technical team is available to support training, equipment adjustment, and local dosage optimization.

## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

### What is Glufosinate-Ammonium?

Glufosinate-Ammonium is a **non-selective, contact herbicide** that kills a wide range of annual and perennial weeds. It works by **inhibiting glutamine synthetase**, leading to a build-up of ammonia in the plant, which disrupts photosynthesis and causes the weed to die. It is widely used in **post-emergent weed control**, especially in **glyphosate-resistant scenarios**.

### How fast does Glufosinate work?

Visible results appear within **2–3 days**, and full weed death usually occurs within **7 to 14 days** after application. The weed’s photosynthesis process stops within **2–6 hours**, which immediately halts further growth.

### How much Glufosinate-Ammonium per litre should I use?

Typical **glufosinate ammonium dosage per litre** in knapsack sprayers:

- For light infestation: **15–20 ml per litre of water**
- For heavy infestation or perennial weeds: **25–30 ml per litre of water**

Always follow label guidelines and adjust based on **weed size**, **target crop**, and **local conditions**.

### Will Glufosinate kill grass?

Yes. Glufosinate is **non-selective** and will kill **most green vegetation**, including broadleaf weeds, sedges, and **grasses** like foxtail, crabgrass, barnyardgrass, and even bermudagrass or quackgrass if directly contacted.

### Can I use Glufosinate in my orchard or vineyard?

Yes. Glufosinate-Ammonium is commonly used as a **row-directed spray** in orchards and vineyards. Avoid contact with **leaves or green stems** of trees and vines. It is ideal for controlling weeds between rows or along irrigation lines.

### Is Glufosinate safe for the environment?

Yes. Once in the soil, Glufosinate breaks down quickly via **microbial activity**. It does **not leach** into groundwater and has **low toxicity to birds, bees, and mammals** when used properly. However, care should be taken **not to spray near open water bodies**.

### What crops can tolerate Glufosinate?

Only **genetically modified crops** specifically bred for glufosinate tolerance—such as **LibertyLink soybeans, corn, and cotton**—can withstand direct application. All other crops should be protected from contact.

### Can Glufosinate be mixed with other herbicides?

Yes. It can be safely mixed with **glyphosate, atrazine, dicamba, flumioxazin**, and many others. Always conduct a **jar test** before tank-mixing and follow compatibility and crop safety guidelines.

### How long is Glufosinate rainfast?

It becomes **rainfast within 4 hours** after application. Try to spray during periods of **stable, dry weather** to ensure maximum efficacy.

### Is Glufosinate better than glyphosate?

They are different tools:

- **Glyphosate** is systemic and moves throughout the plant
- **Glufosinate** is contact-based and kills what it touches

Glufosinate is especially effective on **glyphosate-resistant weeds**, and often used in **rotation or in combination** to delay resistance and improve spectrum.
